As a medical officer sent out from my primary employer (AE-FUTHA) for a rural posting to a partnering mission hospital, I met a collapsing health institution whose former director just resigned due to no solutions in view to the numerous internal and external challenges facing the facility. Called upon to undertake the role of the director of the facility by the board of governors recommendation, upon acceptance, as a 'team-work expert'
> I quickly called for an inaugural meeting of the new management team outlined our operational and strategic approaches categorized into hospital based and community based
> We officially interfaced with our staff as a new management team
> We independently ascertained the challenges and the perceptions on those challenges by the heads of units, senior and junior staff both from the clinical and non clinical categories.
> Our findings compartmentalized into the six building blocks of health systems
> Based on the outcome, we set committees and sub committees that almost involved the entire staff making everyone have sense of ownership of the system, that is , use of integrated knowledge translation(IKT) approach.
> Afterwards, we engaged community and religious leaders, and other social groups inclusive.
> Serial community medical outreaches followed afterwards with results magical.
> My work is based on the tenets of our faith
> Play vital role in policy processes of the organization
> Collaboration with other members to ensure implementation of those policies and guidelines of the organization
> Worked in harmony with other team members according to the provision s of the guideline.
> Any controversial issue was agreed upon on consensus basis as my personal opinion I didn't allow to over ride on others
> I maintained timeliness and was present in all our meetings
> I participated actively both in communication and paper works.
> Routine clinical services to patients
Improved leadership skills with good listening and communication qualities besides surgical and clinical competences
