Usman Mohammed Kawu is a seasoned Business Administrator and Capital Market expert with over 30 years of experience. He is an Assistant Director, currently serving as Head of Commodities Exchanges Division of Registration, Exchanges, Market Infrastructure and Innovation Department at the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria.
He leads the Team responsible for overseeing the activities of Commodities Exchanges and all other intermediaries in ensuring full compliance with regulations and guidelines for commodities and futures exchanges in the capital market.
Prior to his current role, he worked in the Post-Offer Supervision Division from 2005 to 2014. His broad-based Capital Market experience has seen him serve in various Committees, and he is currently the Head of Secretariat of the Commodities Trading Ecosystem Implementation Committee.
His extensive knowledge and vast experience in the Nigerian capital market, have seen him mostly involved in protecting investors' interests and ensuring the orderly conduct of market operators in line with the provisions of the Law, as well as the rules and regulations of the Commission.
Usman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto - Nigeria, Post – Graduate Diploma in Management Studies from University of East London, London and a Master of Business Administration from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, Wales.
He has attended various capacity-building programmes at home and abroad. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.
