Summary

Confident and experienced social development expert, with specialization in community and stakeholders' engagement, social risks assessment and standards compliance. I have gained experience in development work over the years working with International development organizations and locally based Non-Governmental Organizations, either as full time staff or short term consultant to support social standards compliance initiatives, robust consultations with stakeholders to obtain feedback that informed project design to address priority needs. My areas of core competence include community and stakeholder’s engagement, advocacy and social mobilization, environmental and social impact assessment and social policy analysis. Other areas are occupational health and safety (OHS), resettlement policy and action plan, grievance management, training and capacity building as well as ability to monitor and report complex and diverse project and present key findings and recommendations. I have experience working in conflict settings to support peace building, social cohesion and community resilience initiatives including formation of community peace groups and diagnostic analysis of root causes of conflict as well as implementation of Labour Intensive Public Works to support vulnerable households. A holder of Master's degree in Development Studies, with keen interest in social development, especially in supporting/ engaging communities to get involved in decision making process, particularly on issues that affect their lives.   • To be the anchor, repository and activator of all related components of the MCRP Projects across the state; ensuring timely preparation and social inclusion and protection as required of all safeguards guidelines, impact monitoring, management and mitigation plans as well as checklists in all designs, implementation frameworks and instruments for the MCRP projects and sub-projects.
  • Enhance citizens involvement in the investment decisions by facilitating the engagement of those affected by conflict and the local authorities.
  • Assess the robustness of the consultation process required for the preparation and implementation of the resettlement action plan.
  • Strengthen citizens feedback mechanisms to gather accountability of the beneficiaries in communities benefitting from investment in infrastructure and service delivery.
  • Contribute to internal and external training and conferences on social safeguards and development, as well as to other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge sharing.

  • Ensure consultation is carried out with key stakeholders before appraisal of each sub project and arrange for disclosure activities.
  • Facilitate the implementation of Labour Intensive Public Works (LIPW) to support community resilience, household livelihoods among vulnerable people through temporary jobs and promote social cohesion.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the project’s Grievances Redress Mechanism (GRM) by monitoring the status of grievances, facilitating their resolutions, maintaining their documentation and reporting the progress through monitoring reports.
  • Conduct social protection compliance session for project staff, government agencies, contractors and other stakeholders of the project and sub-project.
  • Prepare regular social safeguards monitoring reports and undertake all other tasks in compliance with the project SOP for social safeguards in the PIM.
  • Facilitated and supported the enrolment, validation and deployment of 4,538 vulnerable persons in Yobe state under the Labour Intensive Public Works (LIPW) to provide temporary job opportunities to increase household income, build community resilience, promote social cohesion and restore market functionality.
  • Facilitated and supported the enrolment, validation and deployment of 42,500 beneficiaries of Cash for Works (CfW) in Yobe state as short term quick intervention to cushion economic hardship among poor and vulnerable population.
