Chárbel Jesús Hernández Fragoso was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. He studied History at the University of Guanajuato, where he later completed a master’s degree in History with a focus on interdisciplinary historical studies. During his adolescence and youth, Hernández Fragoso developed an interest in music and participated in rondallas, estudiantinas and various rock groups. These early experiences introduced him to different musical traditions and styles and later became connected to his academic interest in the history and culture of music in Guanajuato. His academic formation developed around the history of Guanajuato, particularly the relationship between cultural practices, music and social change. His research examined musical and cultural life in Guanajuato during the Mexican Revolution and the transformations experienced by local society during the period.
