INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY(IAEA) COMMENDATION ON NIGERIA SAFEGUARDS IMPLEMENTATION

The IAEA's most recent Safeguards Implementation report (2023) and (2020) IAEA director general report confirms Nigeria's adherence to its nuclear non-proliferation commitments. The report highlights that the IAEA verified all declared nuclear materials in Nigeria, along with those in other member states with Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements and Additional Protocols, were maintained strictly for peaceful uses. This accomplishment, which contributed to the agency’s "broader conclusion" for nations upholding their obligations in peaceful nuclear technology, was achieved under my leadership as Head of the Nuclear Safeguards Division, with the dedicated support of my team. The IAEA also commended Nigeria and other compliant countries for their advancements in safeguarding nuclear materials, underscoring our ongoing commitment to non-diversion and the peaceful application of nuclear technology. https://nnra.gov.ng/nnra/post-iaea_applauds_safeguards_implementation_in_nigeria_for_the_first_time) Link to full report is attached
