Babatunde Ọlaṣayọ Popoola is a dedicated linguist and Yorùbá language scholar with a strong foundation in both academic research and practical teaching. Currently an Adjunct lecturer at the University of Lagos. He has consistently demonstrated excellence throughout his academic journey, graduating with distinction in his M.A. (CGPA 4.80/5.00) and the best graduating student of his department and First Class Honours in his B.A. in Linguistics/Yorùbá (CGPA 4.57/5.00), also the best graduating student of the department. His research focuses on Yorùbá dialectology, morphosemantics, phonology, and language documentation, with notable publications including studies on Ọ̀yọ́ dialect contrasts and the morphological analysis of Ìbàdàn place names. He has contributed to numerous research projects, including Indigenous Advertising in Yorùbá society and AI-driven language technology initiatives, with experience in data annotation, NLP projects, and language technology applications. A committed cultural advocate, he has worked with platforms like Babaonigba.com and international organizations to preserve and promote Yorùbá language and heritage. Babatunde is a recognized leader and achiever, having served as a presiding officer in national elections, held leadership roles in university student associations, and received multiple academic awards for excellence. His multilingual proficiency in English, Yorùbá , and Nigerian Pidgin, combined with his interdisciplinary expertise in linguistics, culture, and technology, positions him as a versatile researcher and educator dedicated to advancing the study and practice of Yorùbá language and culture.
