Research Title: Tug of War - A Critical Discourse Analysis of Legitimacy Constructions and Beneficiary Salience in Local NGOs. (Masters Dissertation)
Organisation: School of International Development, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.
Significance: I obtained an A for this dissertation. Also, this research answers the critical question of “What motivates Local NGOs to employ participatory methods in their practice and programs?” and makes a case for the institutionalization of normative outcomes as pre-requisite for donor’s engagement with an LNGO, as it holds the potential for a significant change in not just the discourse but the real-life practice programs of LNGOs.
Examiners Comment: “Overall it seems a highly professional piece of work. Critical and thoughtful throughout, the dissertation demonstrates a high standard of scholarship and seeks to make a genuine contribution to the academic debate on NGOs and legitimacy in the African context.”
