Research-Informed Radio Outreach — Market Access During Harvest: Dynamics, Middlemen Challenges, and Cooperative Solutions

Participated in a research-informed academic and community outreach programme examining market access challenges faced by smallholder farmers during harvest, with a focus on market dynamics, the role and impact of intermediaries (middlemen), and cooperative-based market strategies. Contributed analytical insights grounded in agricultural economics and value chain research to dissect price formation, transaction costs, power asymmetries, and information frictions that affect farmers’ ability to secure fair prices and consistent market participation. Discussed cooperative models as mechanisms for collective negotiation, value addition, and reduced dependency on informal intermediaries, linking theoretical frameworks on market coordination with practical community engagement. This outreach strengthened the translation of research on market structure and farmer agency into actionable guidance for rural stakeholders.

Research-Informed Radio Outreach — Financial Literacy and Access to Agricultural Credit

Engaged in a research-informed academic and community outreach programme translating empirical and policy-based evidence on rural finance into practical guidance for smallholder farmers. The discussion focused on financial literacy, access to agricultural credit, and institutional financing mechanisms, with emphasis on microfinance models, Bank of Agriculture (BOA) loan schemes, and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrowers’ Programme. Contributed analytical perspectives on credit constraints, cooperative-based lending, risk mitigation, and farmer inclusion within agricultural value chains, drawing on development finance and agricultural economics frameworks. The outreach strengthened knowledge transfer between research, policy instruments, and farming communities, supporting evidence-based approaches to rural financial inclusion and sustainable agricultural development.

Impact Assessment of the KSADP Project on Livestock Productivity, Agro-Processing, Post-Harvest Handling, Climate Adaptation, Agribusiness Infrastructure Support, and Technology Transfer in Kano State

Conducted a comprehensive impact assessment of the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) to evaluate project outcomes across livestock productivity, agro-processing and post-harvest handling systems, climate adaptation interventions, agribusiness infrastructure support, and technology transfer mechanisms. Employed qualitative and mixed-method research approaches, including stakeholder interviews and key informant interviews (KIIs), to capture perspectives from project implementers, beneficiaries, and institutional actors. The assessment generated evidence on project effectiveness, adoption of improved technologies, constraints to implementation, and policy-relevant insights for strengthening agricultural development interventions and value chain performance in Kano State.
